Please fill out the Audition Request Form to get placement in the auditions. Auditions will take place September 9-11, 2016.

Audition Requirements:

Principal and Cover Roles:  Two Operatic Arias-One each in Italian and English.  You may prepare additional arias in Russian, German, or French for specific roles in Eugene Onegin, The Impresario, or Djamileh.

Speaking Roles (for The Impresario only):  A 1-1/2 to 2 minute monologue.

Chorus:  One Aria or Song in English.  You may prepare a second song in Italian if desired.  Art Songs, Oratorio Arias, Operatic Arias, Operetta Selections, and Musical Theater Selections are all acceptable.

Please note that in the past existing chorus members were not required to audition, but will be required this time so that our Chorus Master, George Milosh can place people in specific sections.  This is a placement audition only:  those who have already sung in the chorus still have a guaranteed slot.  We encourage existing chorus members to recruit new people if possible!  We also encourage those who are singing principal roles to sing chorus if they are able to in other shows throughout the season.  Many choristers are particularly needed for Eugene Onegin, which is a concert production and will be a lower time commitment than a typical production.  Please indicate your willingness to sing chorus in this, even if auditioning primarily for Principal roles.  Finally, all covers for principal roles will be required to sing in the Chorus of the production they are covering for.

Important Audition Notes

  • Undercroft Opera will provide an accompanist at the time of the audition.
  • All those interested in auditioning for either Lead Roles or Chorus must fill out an online Audition Request Form.
  • Please bring Resume, Headshot and $15 Audition/Accompanist Fee to the audition.
  • Those who have sung recently in the Undercroft Opera Chorus do not need to re-audition. Just complete an audition request form and note your desire to skip the audition in the comments section.
  • Resumes and headshots are not required for Community Outreach Concerts.

Due to the large volume of inquiries we have received, this is the most efficient manner in which to handle audition requests. Upon receipt of your request, a representative will contact you to schedule an appointment.

*Cover Policy: Undercroft Opera relies on the use of covers to provide support for principal roles. The duties of a cover include learning the role to performance level as well as participating in the ensemble for the production. Please do not hesitate to accept an offer to cover a role, as we strive to promote people who have been covers in the past to perform principal roles in future productions, and we treat covers (and principals, naturally) with the utmost respect. Since Undercroft Opera is a community company, we feel that this format provides an atmosphere of cooperation and fairness, and enables the company itself to present the highest quality production.

Auditions are also heard on an ongoing basis by individual appointment for those who would like to participate in our Community Outreach Concerts, which include various operatic scenes and selections. There will be several of these concerts this year at various venues. We would love to hear you sing and to have you participate in this way with Undercroft Opera.

To schedule an audition for Community Outreach Concerts, please send an email with the subject “Audition Request” to mbsederburg@undercroftopera.org or fill out the Audition Request Form on our website. No fee is associated with auditions for Community Outreach Concerts.
